Adriaan Leuschel created Europe’s largest grower of fresh premium mussels from very small beginnings, harvesting around 10 thousand tons per year. The harvested mussels are shipped just-in-time from Sylt via Yserke, where they are cleaned and packaged in-house, mainly to Belgium, but also to restaurants in Germany and Austria, where more and more gourmets are coming to appreciate the outstanding quality of “Sylt mussels”.
On behalf of the founder and majority shareholder of the Sylter Muscheln Group, Mr. Adriaan Leuschel, MRL Advisors implemented a systematic “dual-track” process to find the optimal succession solution for Mr. Leuschel.
Together with MRL Advisors, Mr. Leuschel and his family – two sons who were not working for the company at the time – identified and implemented the options for succession solutions.
This included the “investor track”, in which MRL Advisors approached both strategic investors and financial investors on the basis of the meaningful documents prepared. In the investor track, draft contracts were negotiated ready for signing based on the due diligence.
In addition to the “classic” tasks of an M&A advisor, MRL Advisors also provided design input for the strategic orientation and organizational restructuring of the Sylter Muscheln Group, which has since been effectively implemented (e.g. establishment of a financial holding company, stabilization of the seed harvest, etc.).
In addition, the project initiated by Adriaan Leuschel has raised the profile of family succession. It was ultimately also realized.
